BASIC WORDPRESS SAFETY TIPS: Keep Your Website Secure From Bad Guys and Hackers

Ok know this, if you are practicing basic online security then your site is just like a locked car with its keys in the key hole, and thats bad news.

So what we gonna do now?

The good news is that you can reinforce your website security by having the equivalent of extra locks installed by observing and keeping this basic WordPress safety tips and best practices I will list below.

THE THREE WORDPRESS SAFETY TIPS AND BEST SECURITY PRACTICES

CHOOSE A GOOD AND STRONG PASSWORD

The longer the stronger! Use at least a minimum of eight characters with a mix-up of upper and lower case letters, plus numbers and symbols.

Please do not use “password” or “1234” or your date of birth or worse still, a date of anything. Also do not use your email address, your name or username. Come on, you are not some dumb ass because I know you can do better than that!

DO NOT USE ADMIN AS YOUR USERNAME

Yeah, WordPress allows you to select your own username during installation, but many people choose the default which is “admin” and that is too bad because that’s the first name all the bad guys will try.

So if your username is already “admin” I will advice you change it now, and mean this very moment after reading this.

Now here is a big problem, you cannot change your username again after setup is complete but there is a simple foolproof way to change it.

more on this below….

KEEP EVERYTHING UP TO DATE

It is very important to update WordPress when a new version is released, also don’t forget to update your plugins when a newer version becomes available.

Don’t also forget the themes you installed for your WordPress website, update them too.

The easiest way to change your username if you forget to change it while installing WordPress is to:

Create a new user account in wordpress

Give it an admin access

Then log in with that new username and delete your old account

As simple as that!
